This comprehensive series, inspired by the details of the U.S. Air Force's nylon flight suit "FLYING SUIT / TYPE K-2A," manufactured in the early 1950s, focuses on the essential qualities of military gear: practicality, functionality, and durability. Inspired by the flying suits of the time, the materials used in this series are entirely original, developed from the yarn to the weave using advanced Japanese-made technology. The smooth, lustrous nylon filament, resistant to friction and flexibility, is woven into a high-density, lightweight Oxford pique-like fabric. The surface is treated with a silley finish for a unique sheen and firmness. Each item incorporates details seen in military gear of the time, while incorporating features tailored to everyday life. The main zipper features a wire automatic slider with a fully tanned cowhide leather pull, while other zippers feature custom-made semi-automatic slider pullers bearing the PORTER logo. All models except the string strap (17043) feature an original spec tag sewn on, based on the woven label containing military supply procurement specifications. The original insignia, "P.Y. AIR FORCE," is printed on the MA-1, based on the insignia indicating nationality and military unit. The oxygen tab used to secure the oxygen mask cord with a clip on the early MA-1 models has been redesigned to accommodate a smartphone and other accessories. The shoulder straps are sewn with a unique combination of standard parts and tape, resulting in an innovative system that allows for smooth, one-action adjustment. Patent No. 6698930 / Design No. 1659605: U.S. Air Force soldiers of the time custom painted their flight jackets and aircraft to reflect memories of family, loved ones, and hometowns. Inspired by this culture, this series features two peaceful and charming "PILOT DOG'S" as the original pin-up dogs. This artwork was commissioned by London-based graphic artist Russell Maurice. Each item comes with a hang tag with a "PILOT DOG'S" sticker. This two-way pouch features a hand strap. Its compact size yet ample storage space allows for secure storage of essentials like a smartphone and wallet. It can also be used as a standalone pouch or a bag-in-bag. The shop-exclusive "Air Force Blue" color is based on the color of the flight suits from the era that inspired it. It took many trials and errors to achieve this deep, subdued hue.
